I just could not resist the urge to share this, so commited an academic sin, trying to translate it with my poor grip on english (I am still happy about it :-). It’s a song by Nobel laureate beloved poet Rabindranath Thakur – ‘praner manush’ – literally, the man of my ‘pran’, the meaning of the phrase may range from lover to ‘you know who’. It’s heavily influenced by the Baul cult, a cult of high level shadhak/yogi, who are distinct for their simplistic approach to sadhana and daily life, put the essence of shadhana in simple sounding but double meaning folk songs, and placing love above all and seeking god as a lover.

My ‘praner manush’ is there within myself…
So I see him where ever I see….
He is there within my eyes itself… like a fountain of light.. so I never have to miss his sight…
Thus I see him in whatever I see…
I took much pain to hear him… to look for him… roamed places far away…
But alas, no success…
Then, when I am back in my place… tired and discontent…
Then I heard him… I heard what he is saying all along…
Nowhere but in my own song!!
Hey, You too seem to be looking for him…
Here and there, every where… oh, looking discontent and worn out…
No, this will not help… it never did…
Just come to me and see…
Look in my heart… look in my eyes friends… he lives within…
He is there within my eyes itself… like a fountain of light.. so I never have to miss his sight…
Thus I see him in whatever I see….
