This was written by M F Husain (A dashing, highly eccentric figure who dressed in impeccably tailored suits, he went barefoot and brandished an extra-long paintbrush as a slim cane). The words were taken from Koran. Its called Noor-un-Ala and I heard it in Meenaxi.

I have translated the song. These are the original lyrics.

Light, Light, Light...

This thunderbolt of light piercing the darkness

In all directions, everywhere I look
Light -- Light of God, Light of Allah!

You are here and you are there, everywhere
What kind of illumination is this?
Whom should I ask?
Its you everywhere!

I asked the darkness and it became silent
I asked the brightness and it became shy
I asked the birds, they said its the sky
I asked the silence, it said its the sound

I asked the flowers, the leaves, the colors
And came a voice

From all directions, everywhere I look
Light, Light of God, Light of God!
Noor un ala, noor un ala, noor un ala, noor

I lifted the veil and saw your charisma
I just took a step and it directed me towards you
I lifted my eyes and saw your face

In the humming of the bees
In the clinging of the bangles
In the body and mind of a divine lover
In the eyes of a devotee longing for reunion

In rhythm, in ears
In hearing, in music
Only you
Just you

Noor un ala, noor un ala, noor un ala, noor
Noor un ala, noor un ala, noor un ala, noor

The divine madness of heart
The restless flickering of mind... you!

Just take me away with you
Don't ask me anything now

The life was a mystery
And still is a mystery

What would I do by learning this mystery?
Who has ever understood it?

Some say its love
Some say its worship
Call it extreme passion or obsession
The desire and energy in me to unite with you, is also you!

Noor un ala, noor un ala, noor un ala, noor
Noor noor noor noor..

~ Noor-un-ala : M F Husain [Meenaxi]
