Lesson 222 -
Chimes in Inner Space? (Audio)
From: Yogani
Date: Wed Jul 28, 2004 11:05pm
New Visitors: It is recommended you read from the beginning of the web archive, as previous
lessons are prerequisite to this one. The first lesson is, "Why
This Discussion?"
Q: I've been doing spinal breathing and yoni mudra for a few months straight
now and I'm having some strange things happen. They usually happen late at
night or in the morning upon waking. Upon waking, I've been getting a rapid
vibration in my chest area and inside my jaw sockets. It was strange but not
uncomfortable. I also hear strange, mystical "chime like" sounds after I do
my night time meditation. Sometimes I am awakened by them as I dose off in
corpse pose after meditation. The sounds are hard to describe and are hard
to tell where they are coming from. I think they are coming from outside my
house but a lot of the time there is no wind and I never hear them any other
time. I've practiced yoga and meditation for several years and have come
across lots of strange things but these sounds are really different. I am
wondering if they are somehow linked to the practice and if so what might
they be? I know it can be just a coincidence I hear them when I do but I
think there may be something else happening here. Thank you so much for the
lessons and your time!!!
A Thank you for writing and sharing.
If it is not the wind chimes outside, then it is likely the expansion of
your heart space and inner sensuality, as was discussed in the last lesson (#221).
When this happens (common with spinal breathing, especially with yoni mudra
kumbhaka added) inner sounds that are "celestial" in nature may seem to be
somewhere outside. This is because our inner dimension has expanded out into
our surroundings. So, it can seem like we are experiencing something outside
our body while it is inside us and "out there" at the same time. The
uncertainty you feel about where the sound is coming from is common in this
situation. Don't be concerned about it. Good things are happening. So, if it
isn't the outside chimes, it is probably the inside ones that are "anahata"
- unstruck sound.
If any of these experiences become uncomfortable or excessively distracting
(the vibrations or the sounds), be sure and apply prudent self-pacing in
your practices. Otherwise, enjoy!
I wish you all success on your chosen spiritual path.
The guru is in you.
