Hi all,
Here is a beautiful short video on the four stages of enlightenment as taught by the Buddha:

Most of the words are the words of the Buddha from the Pali Cannon.

Hi Alwayson,
quote: as according to the Theravadins yes
As according to the Buddha.
I thought the description of an Arahat was especially beautiful:
"When a monk is an Arahant, his fermentations ended, who has reached fulfillment, done the task, laid down the burden, attained the true goal, totally destroyed the fetter of becoming, and is released through right gnosis, he is dedicated to six things:
1. Renunciation 2. Seclusion 3. Non-Afflictiveness 4. The end of craving 5. The end of attachment 6. The realization of the four noble truths
One who cuts off all confusion is called an Arhat. Previous karma is ended and new karma is not created. Nor is any condition for rebirth and death provided. They may be liberated by their wisdom of be liberated completely. Having the six supernatural powers and the three insights the Arants are the superb field of good fortune in the world. Clear, pure and always unmoving, they are like the sun in the clear sky. All their actions on Earth are undefiled like lotus flowers.
Letting go of the constant need to divide into seperate camps is part of the process of enlightenment, and is in fact, a very beautiful part.
Enjoy

The 3 stages Maitreya Ishwara describes according to his going through:
http://www.ishwara.com/pdf/Unity2009.pdf - page 582 (291)
stage 1 - ego dissolves, beingness remains
stage 2 - beingness is transcened to the cosmic witness
stage 3 - the witness dissolves in non-being
There are many definition-tries from different people. In the end, everyone has to find out him/herself. |
