The reed,
unendingly assaulted by violent wind,
never suffers.
It never occurred to the reed
that its lot in life
is impacted by externalities.
Indeed, the reed
never, for even a moment,
conceived of wind.
Realization
is that the reed is not victimized
by the wind.
Realization
is that there is no distinction to be made
between reed and wind
We presume, though
that realization
is the converse.
We deem the ignorant reed
to lack realization
of its true separate identity
With cultivation and evolution,
the reed may eventually become
self-aware and miserable like us.
And we, ourselves, have but
to cultivate yet more self-awareness
to escape that misery.
True realization
is actually the precise opposite;
so the reed had it right all along.
