Through your eyes the universe sees
Through your ears the universe hears
Through your nose the universe smells
Through your palate the universe tastes
Through your touch the universe feels
Through your loving the universe loves

The sight is beautiful, but the seeingness is sublime
The sound is beautiful, but the hearingess is sublime
The scent is beautiful, but the smellingness is sublime
The flavor is beautiful, but the tastingness is sublime
The tactile feeling is beautiful, but the feelingness is sublime
The beloved is beautiful, but the lovingness is sublime

The universe sees not the sight; it drinks the seeingness
The universe hears not the sound; it drinks the hearingness
The universe smells not the scent; it drinks the smellingness
The universe tastes not the flavor; it drinks the tastingness
The universe feels not the tactile feeling; it drinks the feelingness
The universe loves not the beloved; it drinks the lovingness

Trace each back to the drinking point, heeding neither sensed nor sensor.

Thanks Jim
My first thought was the Buddhist Heart Sutra and the direct experience that comes out of that.
I never heard of Pratyahara but having researched it in Wikepedia discovered some of its beauty.

Thanks again for the poem
Louis

I like the Heart Sutra, too!

This is not the usual "take" on pratyahara. Pratyahara is a "lost" limb of yoga. Most teachers consider it more of a yama/niyama than a branch unto itself, teaching that it's about directing your senses inward and not getting attached to external sensory stimulation. But there's a ton more to it, awaiting discovery.
