I can't really share experiences on this because
I even didn't know what shaktipat is/means.
But I did a search on AYP-site and found this:

http://www.aypsite.org/146.html

This article really touched my heart,
thank you Yogani !
Our own bhakti provides all the shaktipat,
I fully go with that.

Hi Wolfgang,
Well after reading the link you posted I must disagree with some of the things Yogani said.In my own experience there is no comparision to shaktipat by any other things I have experienced and I very much doubt if there ever will be.Shaktipat is only the lighting of the fuse and yes, our own bhakti and mindset governs much of what we receive.Shaktipat, meditation, pranayama or any other practices on their own are not enough. One has to change their mindset, and as Jesus preached have good will towards others. No matter how much time you spend on practices they will never be enough on their own.

What Yogani is saying (to my understanding) is this:
Shaktipat can be given by a guru/sage, but in todays age
it can also be given by the universe, by ones own bhakti.
The danger I see when shaktipat is given by a guru, is,
that the receiver of the energy is becoming dependent
on the guru, becoming or feeling indebted to the guru,
or that the guru himself/herself is not transmitting
the energy in a pure selfless way.
I am not saying that this must happen, I just say it could happen.

Now I don't know why you disagree with the article,
may be you got the impression that Yogani is emphasizing
the practices only, which could mean if you are doing
the practices 24/7 continously, all else would be taken care of.
If that was your impression, then remember that many times in
the lessons it is said to practice and then go out in the world.

regards
Wolfgang

Hi Wolfgang,
I didn't say I disagreed with all that Yogani said. The danger as I see it is that there are many out there who claim to give shaktipat and are either deluded by their own ego that they can do such a thing or are simply trying to make money from others. To my knowledge there are very few who can safely give shaktipat and these are generally on the siddha path.Yes we can awaken the shakti by our practices and bhakti but it is a much slower process. All eventually receive enlightenment but it is belived to be many thousands of lifetimes.Shaktipat and assistance from the realised guru is simply a faster way and even this is a lifetimes work.

Can you really know that this is true?

Nice topic. It is often said that alone receiving Shaktipat is not important. After that process maintaining the Kundalini awake and progress is the real challenge. Those who have receied Shaktipat can they please share their thought on above statement?

Hi Anthem,Mystic,
Yes, shaktipat is simply lighting the fuse and in fact if one discontinues practices the shakti can go back to sleep. It has to be nurtured. As I have said before practices alone are not enough without changing ones mindset. As one progresses the ego is eventually dissolved but if one constantly checks oneself then it happens quicker as does your progress.I believe if you don't make the effort to dissolve the ego then you run the risk of being corrupted by the energies as the siddhis awaken.
Anthem I can't comment on Eckhart Tolle or Byron Katie as i don't know of their work.I can tell you that with shaktipat the path can be much shorter just as if one is blessed to be born with the shakti awake can also find shorter journeys.
One has to consider enlightenment as being different for each as well.We are all partially realised but some are more than others depending on where they are on the journey. Some may consider the Maharisihi Mahesh Yogi as a realised guru but he is still not at a level of enlightenment of the level of the siddhas. He has not enjoyed the blessing of shaktipat or the benefit of the siddha mantras but has had to work hard for many years to achieve his present levels.Although the Maharishi is well known in the West I don't believe he is considered to be of any great importance among the Siddhas of India although he has done much to promote spirituality in the West. When I spoke of practices alone not being enough I was referring to the fact of working on oneself also not simply about receiving shaktipat.

Hi Scott,
Although I have posted my experiences before please find them below.
As promised here are my experiences of shaktipat.
Day 1
It feels as though everyones has been waiting for me, there's monks
from the Himalayas, local villagers,Avani(Neela's student) and
me.About 40 of us I would guess.Neela tells me instead of the normal
place in the underground temple we are to receive shaktipat at
Dhyanyogi's maha samadhi which is indeed an honour.I had visited it
the day before and the energy is superb and guruji has told Neela to
put Avani and myself at the front in pole position.Lucky us.Guruji
will be sitting directly next to the life size statue of his guru
and his ashes, we are at bottom of the three steps directly in
front, and neela behind us.(probably to catch us heheheh)Two of the
sisters who assist guruji and run the school on the ashram start the
chanting of Ram which we all join in. I haven't a clue what I'm
doing but I'm just blending in with everyone else.(well as much as
the only white man can heheheheh)After a while they have us chanting
after them the Bhutta shuddi mantra before guruji joins us.He
enters ,walks around the maha samadhi and walks up the
steps, postrates himself to Dhyan yogis tomb and then sits
down.Shortly he starts chanting prayers,mantrasetc.Hell I haven't a
clue what he's chanting, luckily Neela has been asked to explain some
of it to me during procedures. We were given an Asan to sit on at the
beginning which somehow during the proceedings he charges
permanently with energy when we touched our hands to it.Even now
when I sit on it my head throbs it's so powerful.Ok so now we have
probably been sat cross legged for an hour and my knees are seized.
heehheheh. Then all around me people start breathing rapidly through
their noses and Neela has indicated I do the same. This is to remove
the air from the stomach and I'm thinking I will hyperventilate but
surprisingly I don't and I'm still on this planet.Guruji comes down
the steps and approaches me.He places his thumb on my third eye and
fingers on my crown.I don't feel anything. He tilts my head back and
gently pushes me backwards to lay me down.I still feel nothing. As
I'm laid there I'm thinking 'well I can't feel anything but Neela
told me to just go with any thoughts or feelings that came my way'
so I just lay quietly as the music plays and the recording of his
chanting continues. After about 5 mins I find my right arm starts to
move on its own.It lifts up to my shoulder and stops. Then my left
arm follows suit and left hand covers my heart chakra. My right hand
covers my left on the heart chakra and with both hands over my heart
chakra my top of body starts shaking violently. This must go on for
well over a half hour and probably longer, I can't tell even though
I am fully conscious.Eventually the music stops and the shaking
subsides.I open my eyes preparing to get up and see that most have
already left and gone.My eyes are like owls and we go to sit with
guruji around an open fire before dinner. Then its back to my room
for meditation and sleep.Only trouble is I can't sleep and am sat in
a small armchair until 4.30 am shaking uncontrollably before I go to
bed and rise at 7 am.Well that was day 1 of shaktipat and 3 more to
go.
Well day 2 was just as dramatic as day 1.We gathered in Dhyanyogis
maha samadhi again and the chanting started as before.Once again
guruji came down the steps, placed his thumb on my third eye and
fingers on crown and laid me down again. As I lay again fully
conscious I had my right knee bent to prevent my back aching laid
flat out.Within about 10 mins my other leg moved up to the same
position alongside my right leg and my body started to roll on the
base of my spine.Guruji walked up and transferred further energy
through both sides of my head using his peacock feather staff.I
could feel the energy moving up my spine and at certain times in my
root chakra. The rocking on my spine continued for about half an hour
and I experienced my arms going numb and feelings of ants crawling
on my face and back of hand. After we had food again to ground the
energies and I returned to my room to meditate further.I still
couldn't sleep.
Day 3
Back to the maha samadhi but this time as I was sat up while the
chanting continued I started rocking on the base of my spine again
even before guruji touched me.I thought 'well I've had lower half
trembling and upper body trembling ,whats next whole body
trembling?' Yep, sure enough my whole body started shaking
uncontrollably , I could feel my body tingling and the ants crawling
again.Sat up again till 3.40 am before bed shaking uncontrollably.I
heard a voice in my head saying 'don't worry I'll always be with
you' and gold symbols flashed before my eyes.Got about 1 hrs sleep.
Day 4
We started in the maha samadhi which we had decorated as it was
Dhyan yogi's birthday and started the shaktipat chanting in there
before moving into the main hall where guruji had told us to take
seats at the front again. When he rose he put the peacock feathers on
my forehead and then after his thumb on third eye and fingers on
crown. When he walked past I remained sat for a few minutes and then
fell over to one side onto my side.Shortly my right leg started
shaking uncontrollably, slight pain up my back as the energy moved
upwards and then I felt as if I had a blanket of energy laid over me
pinning me to the floor.I couldn't move and after about half an hour
of the shaking it stopped and I thought of getting up.I still
couldn't move so I decided if I put my hand out then maybe guruji
might help me up.Then my left arm started to move on it's own and
lifted, my fingers came together pointed and my hand writhed as if
it was a snakes head before stretching out with my hand outstretched
as if I was holding a begging bowl.Now I was stuck as I couldn't
move my hand now and no one came to my assistance. After a short
while Neela came up to me and I thought she would help me up but
simply covered me with her shawl and walked away. Thanks Neela you
are a pal! As I lay there I heard the music stop, start again and then
everyone started singing and dancing. This must have gone on for
about half an hour before they all stopped and then prepared to sit
and have their meal.I'm still laid ,pinned down by the energy on my
own and my left arm had moved so my hand was wrapped around my right
shoulder pulling me further into the floor.Neela came up and asked
me to get up but I couldn't and told her so.She grounded the energy
down my back and I slowly pushed myself up only to find my head
spinning and very unsteady on my feet.I later sat near where guruji
was chanting in a room and the kriyas started again just with the
sound of his voice. After going to bed I sat with more shaking and
had a vision of Ganesh and when I opened my eyes the wall which was
white had changed to a plum colour with a symbol embossed all over
it.Then I had flashes of myself changing from my clothes into a grey
turban and loin cloth before I finally went to sleep.
Other experiences while in bed on other nights included waking and
feeling of euphoria and a voice saying 'I am giving you a glimpse of
true bliss' which promptly faded as the words ended.Another night
Linda(my wife) woke me when ringing me and as I awoke there was a fantastic
smell of roses in the room which was so powerful, just like the
roses on the maha samadhi. All in all a fascinating experience which
cannot be repeated and was all the more special as it was Dhyan
yogi's birthday and guruji really pushed the boat out for me and was
very complimentary to me.

My fuse has been lit by God (who gives pretty good shaktipat, I hasten to note). But shakti drifts in and out of ignition, though my practice continues. I'm not really worried about it. I'm in this to worry less, not more.

I think the idea of someone/something lighting someone else's fuse, be it God, the guru, or oneself, is off, though. It's not an accomplishment when "I do it myself", it's not a gift when guru or God does it to me. I can't express it in words, but....this is really not the right mindset (IMO). It's maya thinking....steeped in change and need and posession striving and accomplishment.

That's one big reason I love AYP. Yogani has permeated this practice with a very mild, low-key perspective that I find extremely contagious and extremely conducive. Okey dokey...just going to sit for a while and do some simple practices. No biggie. Ok, there's shakti. That's nice. Ok, I continue, nice and mild. Etc etc.

That's so exactly right-on. I'd strenuously urge my fellow practitioners to continue to reread the AYP lessons just to glom onto that mindset, which is so revolutionary and so extremely conducive.

I just read your account of the shaktipat. Thanks for taking the time to recount it.

Question on the trembling. Do you recall whether it started in the diaphragm? It may be hard to remember....or even to realize it at the time. But I find when the shakti is really active, and I feel my whole body shake, it's actually just very very strong diaphragmatic contractions....strong enough (and central enough) to move everything. It took me some time to figure this out, but you can match the result by lying down and doing forceful coughing contractions right at the solar plexus, and sort of connect it to the spine.

My thought on reading that was that it sounds like some classic overdoing symptoms, but I'm glad you're ok. No lingering pitta issues? No skin rash, sensation of heat, headache at ajna or crown or base of skull? No enduring feeling of lack of groundedness?

Hi Jim,
I have had no problems at all since shaktipat.I can't recall if the trembling started at the diaphragm but it may have, it seemed to simply start the whole upper half to shake , probably centred around my heart chakra. It was more than strong contractions though, try placing both hands on the heart chakra and twist the top half as far as you can to the natural limit. Do this both ways and then do it as fast as you possibly can and then you are nearly there.I can't repeat it fast enough to feel the full effect.I practiced martial arts for over 30 yrs so grounding has never been a problem for me and the only feelings I get are when either meditating, pranayama or japa.

Wonderful experience Dave!

How did you find your Guru? And what is Bhuta Shuddhi Mantra? Is it the same one as Beej Mantra chanting with Chakra meditation(as explained by Swami Sivanand)?

Hi Aditya,
Actually I met my guru on the net on a free Reiki attunement group where we were both members. She was guided to contact me and when I read her history and her practices I knew immediately this was what I had been searching for for a long time.
The Bija Akshars are used for specifically working on the chakras when coupled with spinal breathing.
The Bhuta Shuddi mantra is specifically a cleansing/purifying mantra which is used for japa.It is a very powerful mantra for purification. When I chant it EVEN with my eyes closed it sends me into deep meditation after a few minutes.Strangely enough very little is mentioned on here about the effects of japa as part of ones practices.Perhaps it's not part of Kriya yoga/AYP?

Hi Dave,

Is this Bhoot shudhhi mantra that you are talking about?
http://swamij.com/chakra-meditation.htm

Or is it something else?

Or something secret given by Guru?

Is your guru Kriya Yogi or Ananda Margi?

Hi Aditya,
No this is not the bhuta shuddi as given to me by guruji. The link you gave is the bijas for the chakras and these are still slightly different than the ones in my lineage. The butta shuddi is normally given 1 yr after shaktipat or at the same time as shaktipat. I was given the butta shuddi when I was given shaktipat but my friends in USA were not given the same as me simply because they were not under close watch by guruji as they were not stopping on the same premises as him.I was given more than them simply because I was under his watchful eyes all the time during the anhustan period.I was also given different instructions for it's use. The Butta Shuddi is simply chanting of the mantra but it is repeated as fast as possible to create energy for purification. It takes me at least 20 seconds to chant it once as it is a long mantra.Normally with anhustan you use the Butta Shuddi daily for 1 round of the mala which takes at least 1 hr when you get up to speed and then you chant the guru mantra for 21 rounds which takes half an hour. The energy created leads to further purification, which in turn allows greater progress in meditation. The lineage I am in is Kundalini Maha Yoga NOT Kriya yoga. This is the lineage of the siddha path.Guruji was a high level Tantric yogi before he met his guru Dhyanyogi Madhusudandsji. It was he who gave him shktipat and eventually crowned him Gadapati.KMY is basically meditation and japa with very little else, no postures, very little pranayama, the difference is in the mantras as they have the energy of the satguru in them which makes their effect greater. The problem with these mantras(it would be a problem according to AYP guidelines)is that cleansing is inevitable and very little is needed to give the sort of experiences that some would say need self pacing and backing off practices. It depends on how much you are prepared to put up with.

Hi All,

This is too cool. I was just hunting last night for ANY interpretation of the Bhuta Shuddhi mantra given me by Omdasji. I find some info on what it IS, but not the actual mantra, as it is secretive for obvious reasons. While it is a VERY great tool in clearing out karma and what-not, it would not be wise for anyone to read/chant it without the guidance of a realized Guru.

Anyway, I am happy to see my buddy, Dave (riptiz), has also been posting here. My partner, Korey, and I are a few of Dave's friends in the USA that he is referring to.

I would be more than happy to share with anyone my experiences with the awakened Shakti. I have shared some with Dave already. Perhaps he has mentioned a recent experience of mine already?

Bless you all. May you be guided to where you need to be at the right time for your greatest growth and highest good.

Love,
Matt
