Lesson 12 - Q&A – Wet dreams and premature ejaculation

From: Yogani
Date: Mon Feb 23, 2004 1:47pm

New Members: It is recommended you read from the beginning of the AdvancedYogaPractices main group web archive, as previous lessons are prerequisite to this one. The first lesson is, "Why This Discussion?" It is also recommended you read from the beginning of this tantra yoga archive. The first lesson is, "What is tantra yoga?"

Q: I was reading through the messages and I've a question. This is regarding how one can control the sub-conscious mind into not having 'wet-dreams'. Most of my friends agree experiencing such incidents. But some of my friends - whom I consider to be spiritually more 'pure' - seem to never have experienced this. I personally see this as a lack of control of emotions and thoughts. Can you comment on this please?

A: Wet dreams are usually the product of immature erotic sensitivities, and are a cousin of premature ejaculation. These tendencies are both mental and physical, with mind and body being closely connected.

On the mental side, if we meditate daily we will find inner silence coming up and we will find gradually more awareness in waking, dreaming and deep sleep states. We will "witness" them more from deep within our silent Self. In time, we will know we are dreaming and be less inclined to occurrences like wet dreams. Perhaps this is what you notice in your more spiritually attuned friends. They are more aware and not so prone to the flights of their dreams.

Developing inner silence is the key from the mental point of view, and this comes from more purification deep in the nervous system, primarily through meditation. Some people are born with more inner purification than others, having done spiritual practices in previous lives. We can all become more pure and aware by doing them in this life.

On the physical side, we can develop more staying power in front of orgasm using the tools in these lessons. This can be done either alone or with a partner. As we develop more control of our sexual functioning this will improve the situation of both wet dreams and premature ejaculation. Of course, accomplishing this will give us rising confidence and benefit us mentally and emotionally as well.

It is just a matter of conscious development, moving beyond natural immaturity in our nervous system to natural maturity. A combination of advanced yoga practices and tantric sexual methods can bring many benefits along these lines.

The guru is in you.

Note:  For detailed instructions on the methods of tantra in relation to the broad scope of yoga practices and the enlightenment process, see the AYP Tantra book.
